Abstrak
Maqsuratun Hafiza, 2319.055, The Title “The Correlation Between Students Reading Anxiety and Their Reading Comprehension at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 3 Bukittinggi”. A thesis of English Education Study Program UIN Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi 2023/2024. Theoretically, reading anxiety can affect their reading comprehension. This research is aimed to find out whether there is a correlation between reading anxiety and their reading comprehension. Empirically, the rationalities of the research are based on the three main rationales. Firstly, the students feel anxious when they try and comprehend the English passages and sometime they make an excuse to leave the class. Secondly, the students think reading in other language especially English is complicated. Thridly, many students become worry about making mistake. The research was a correlation research. The population of research was students of class VIII SMPN 3 Bukittinggi, as many as Five classes, which were to 140 students. The sample for the research was 140 students selected using the total sampling technique. The data were collected through testing and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment and to test the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula and consult the result into t-table with level significant α=5%. This research found that there was a significant correlation between reading anxiety and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade pf SMPN 3 Bukittinggi was strong correlation (0.668). The criteria of the correlation between 0.60-0.799 are considered strong, the researcher concluded that rxy = 0.668 with N 138 were significant. It means that ho was rejected and ha is accepted. Another that, based on Pearson product moment formula was compared to R-table the research found that it was rxy (0.668) > rtable (0.167) its mean ho was rejected, and ha was accepted. In conclusion, the result showed that there was positive correlation between reading anxiety and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Bukittinggi..
