Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2025. This study addressed issues related to the correlation between students’ Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competence and their self-confidence in speaking English. Although Social emotional learning was indirectly applied in English learning process, students speaking confidence varied. Those with higher SEL competence tended to be more confident and engaged, while others appeared hesitant. This variation indicated a possible relationship between SEL and speaking self-confidence. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether there was a significant correlation between students SEL competence and student self-confidence in speaking English among eighth-grade students at MTSs Asy-Syarif Koto Laweh.. This research used a quantitative correlational design. The population was the entire 8th-grade students of MTSs Asy-Syarif, with a total of 48 students selected using total sampling technique. The instruments used were a questionnaire of 45 statements for SEL competence (Zins et al., 2004) and 28 statements for students’ self-confidence in speaking (Febriyani et al., 2020), both using a Likert scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS, including validity and reliability tests, normality, linearity, and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results of this study showed a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.914 with a significance value of 0.001. This indicates a very strong and statistically significant positive correlation between students’ Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competence and their self-confidence in speaking. In other words, students with higher SEL competence tend to have higher self-confidence in speaking English.
