Abstrak
ABSTRACT HERLINA: 2315.139 “The Correlation Between Reading Speed and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Second Grade of SMK N 1 Kinali in the Academic Year 2021/2022”, A Thesis, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi,2022. The purpose of this reseach was to find out whether there any significant correlation between students’ Reading Speed and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Second Grade of SMK N 1 Kinali in the Academic Year 2021/2022. The researcher found several problems at the field, the problems were the students have problems in reading speed and vocabulary. The indicated that the students were poor reading speed, their vocabulary was good. The students good reading speed, their vocabulary was poor. The students were weak in mastering vocabulary and Some of students’ low motivation in reading. Thus, this research was done in SMK N 1 Kinali. The design of this research was correlational research. The instruments of this research were reading speed tests for measuring students’ reading speed and vocabulary mastery test for measuring students’ vocabulary mastery. The population of this research was all of the second grade of SMK N 1 Kinali in the academic year of 2020/2021 which consists of 4 classes. The sample was 33 students taken by simple random sampling technique. To find that the students’ reading speed and their vocabulary mastery correlate or not, the researcher used the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results of the research show that there was a correlation between students’ Reading Speed and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Second Grade of SMK N 1 Kinali in the Academic Year 2021/2022. The researcher found that the coefficient of correlation between students’ Reading Speed and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery was 0,371. It showed that there was high correlation between students critical thinking and argumentative writing, it included the scale of r interpretation score between 0,60-0,79. Futhermore, with df =31. And the level of significance 0,05 (α= 5%) obtained 0,3440. So, rxy = 0,371 > t table 0,3440. So, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It means that there was low correlation between students’ Reading Speed and Students’ Vocabulary Mastery.
