However, the researcher found that some students had good emotional quotient, but low learning achievement on English. Nevertheless, there were some students had low emotional quotient, but high learning achievement. Because of that, the researcher wanted to find out the correlation between students’ emotional quotient and their learning achievement on English of eighth grade students at UPT SMPN 1 Tanjuang Baru. The design of this research was correlational research. The instrument of this research was questionnaire for measuring students’ emotional quotient and final test scores for measuring students’ learning achievement on English. The population of this research was all of eighth grade students of UPT SMPN 1 Tanjuang Baru which consisted of 74 students. The researcher used total sampling because the population less than a hundred. To find the correlation between students’ emotional quotient and their learning achievement on English, the researcher used the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The finding of this research revealed that the coefficient correlation was 0.548. It means, there was a positive correlation between students’ emotional quotient and their learning achievement on English. The result of the magnitude between the two variables was sufficient, because it lies between the interpretations of 0.40-0.60. Based on hypothesis testing, the rxy was 0.548 whereas r - table on α = 0.05 was 0.2319. In short, rxy score was bigger rather than r - table score. Hence, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Thus, there was a positive correlation between students’ emotional quotient and their learning achievement on English of eighth grade students at UPT SMPN 1 Tanjuang Baru.
