The Effect of Interactive Learning Strategy Toward Students Reading Comprehension in SMKN 2 Padang Panjang

ABSTRACT This research aimed to investigate the effect of using the Interactive Learning Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at SMKN 2 Padang Panjang. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: the experimental class, which was taught using the Interactive Learning Strategy, and the control class, which was taught using traditional methods. The data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests consisting of reading comprehension tasks. The results of the t-test analysis using SPSS 20 showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000 0.05, indicating that there was a significant difference between the two groups. The findings revealed that students who were taught through the Interactive Learning Strategy achieved higher post-test scores and demonstrated greater engagement and participation in reading activities than those in the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Interactive Learning Strategy has a significant and positive effect on students’ reading comprehension. The study suggests that English teachers should implement interactive approaches to create more engaging, communicative, and student-centered learning environments that can enhance students’ understanding and motivation in reading. Abstract Dita Fitria Amanda, 2320062. An Analysis Of Multimodal Literacy On Students’ Reading Ability At The VIII Grade Of SMPN 1 Kamang Magek Thesis, English Education Department. FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2024. This research aimed to analyze how teachers integrate elements of Multimodal Literacy and the inhibiting and supporting factors when using Multimodal Literacy in their reading instruction. It focused on students’ limited English proficiency in understanding the content of English texts and teachers’ challenges in integrating effective teaching strategies using Multimodal Literacy. The methodology used in this study was a qualitative case study, with data collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews. Observations were conducted over two sessions in class VIII, focusing on four elements of Multimodal Literacy: Text, Images, Sound, and Other Media Forms, along with the inhibiting and supporting factors for teachers when integrating Multimodal Literacy. Interviews were conducted with one English teacher and six students to understand their experiences with Multimodal Literacy in the reading instruction process. Data analysis was carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This approach enabled the researcher to obtain rich and in-depth data about Multimodal Literacy in the field. The results showed that text and image elements were the most frequently used in reading activities, while audio and other forms of media were used to a limited extent due to constraints in facilities and technical skills. The primary challenges faced by the teachers included limited technology and the need to adapt teaching methods to multimodal elements. Supporting factors included teachers’ motivation and students’ openness to more interactive learning methods. This study recommended increased access to technology and training for teachers to optimize the use of Multimodal Literacy.

An Analysis on English Learning Strategy Pertaining to Barin Dominance of Students at SMA Alhira

ABSTRACT Alfu Syahri, 2315.096. An Analysis of Learning Strategy Pertaining to Brain Dominance of Students at SMA Alhira. A thesis, State Islamic University Bukittinggi, 2022 This research was done due to problems which were found in Senior High School Alhira. First, the students did not know their brain dominance since they had never took the test themselves. Second, the learning strategy of the students prefer were various. Third, the teacher used the same learning strategies for all the students. This research aimed to find out the Senior High School Alhira brain dominances, learning strategies, and learning strategies of students who have the right or left brain dominance. This study employed a quantitative research methodology. This study used a descriptive research design. The participants in this study were Senior High School Alhira pupils. Additionally, the researcher employed total sampling as a sampling technique and selected all 24 pupils enrolled in Senior High School Alhira. The research's instrument, a questionnaire, was used to collect data. The researcher verified the accuracy of the data acquired before doing the analysis. Data was then tallied and placed in a table. The data is then scored. placing the score in the distribution table at the end The majority of the students, according to the study, exhibited left brain dominance, with just one showing balance between the left and right brains. Students employed a range of tactics. Students with right brain predominance use a variety of learning techniques. Left-brained students prefer learning strategies that involve managing their emotions. This demonstrates that the students' preferred learning technique was not really determined by brain dominance.

AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT'S LEARNING READING STRATEGY IN HOTS TEXT

This research was problem found in SMAN 3 Batusangkar. Then, the researcher motivated by the problems of class XI students at SMAN 3 Batusangkar. First, some students have limitations in their knowledge of correct reading learning strategies, which causes students to omit something when they write. Second, some students have a variety of reading strategies that make these students have problems in learning. The researcher's question in this study is what are the students' strategies in learning reading and how they use them. The purpose of this research was find out what types of strategies students have in learning reading and how they use them. This study use mixed methods with class XI as the research population. The research sample amounted to 40 students who were selected through purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through tests and questionnaires. In the writing test, students are asked to tick one of the scales containing 3 scores and give reasons on the question sheet. From the research, the researcher got the answer what student’s strategies and how they applied it. First, The results shown that most of the student apllied compensation strategy 35% and some of the students has choosen 28% social strategy in reading HOTS text. Second, The student has chosen compensation strategy because it helped student made up for lack of knowledge. social learning strategies meant some of the students responsed well to a set of approached from teacher to become active paticipants in class through interaction with others and sharing of knowledge the students have. The way students used strategies was giving mark on difficult words or taken a note on important section and the students was cooperated with another students for better learning in reading HOTS text.

ANALYSIS THE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING APPLICATION IN READING MATERIAL AT NINE GRADE OF SMPN 7 KINALI PASAMAN BARAT

ABSTRACT Sukini, 2315.075,“Analysis The Collaborative Learning Application in Reading Material at Nine Grade of SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat” a thesis, State Islamic Institute Bukittinggi. 2020 This research was designed to find out and analyze the collaborative learning application in reading material at nine grade of SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat. This research conducted due to several problems found in the field which were students make a fuss when working in groups, students do not listen to the assignment given by the teacher. It can be seen that there were students who work on group assignments that care and others were just busy talking with others. This research was done in order to answer the research question “How is the collaborative learning application in reading material at the nine grade of SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat?” This research was a qualitative research using collaborative learning methods. The purpose of this research was to find out and analyze the collaborative learning application in reading material at the nine grade of SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat by analyzing the teacher’s and students’ role in the collaborative learning. The researcher used interview and observation as the instrument of the research. The interview was directed to both students and teacher, which for the students contained 12 questions and for the teacher contained 7 questions. The researcher took 2 classes namely IX1 and IX2 as the observation object. Based on the finding from interview and observation the collaborative learning in SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat it was found that the teacher already fulfilled her role in the collaborative learning effectively, in the other hand the students still lack of the role as the cheer leader. They still laughed at their friends mistake. Besides that, the other roles that the students supposed to have were already done effectively. As the conclusion, the collaborative learning in SMPN 7 Kinali Pasaman Barat was good since the students and the teacher were doing their role effectively Key word: Collaborative learning, Reading material

An Analysis of Students’ Social Strategies in Learning English at the Second Grade Junior High School Students of MTsM Sungai Batang

This research was conducted due to the problems that occurred among the second grade junior high school students of MTsM Sungai Batang in learning English. Researcher found the problems among the students. The first problem was some of students had assumption and believe that English is the difficult subject to master. Next, some of students still kept silent in the learning English eventhough they did not understand about the material that teacher taught. The third problem was some students were busy with themselves and did not cooperate with the others eventhough the teacher had classified them into the group. The fourth problem was some of students had used the strategies, but they were not aware of using these strategies. Next, the teacher did not know and still difficult to identification category of students in using social strategy. In the classroom, the teacher had taught and guidance students to use the strategies. The researcher found that the effect of the usage of the strategy was still vary among students. From the phenomena above, researcher wanted to find the social strategies used by students in learning English at the Second Grade Junior High School Students of MTsM Sungai Batang Academic Year 2017/2018. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative research. The data was gotten through questionnaire which constist of fourty items. The sample of this research were 42 students from total population were 42 students and the researcher used total sampling technique. Researcher served the data into table and chart of the social strategies that was used by student. The technique of data analysis was through the formula to found mean and percentage. The finding showed that students in learning English used kinds of social strategies. The highest preferable strategy was Cooperating with Others (72%) and continued by Asking Questions (71%). The lowest choosen strategy was Empathizing with Others (67%). The students who were applied social strategy could be divided into four main category which were good, enough, low and very low. Each of the category had describe percentage to determine categorization. From the calculation, no one from the student had good category from 42 sample. Enough category was filled by 34 students. There were only 8 students got the low user of the social strategy. Thus, the use of the social strategy among students in learning English was mostly enough
