Abstract Dita Fitria Amanda, 2320062. An Analysis Of Multimodal Literacy On Students’ Reading Ability At The VIII Grade Of SMPN 1 Kamang Magek Thesis, English Education Department. FTIK UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2024. This research aimed to analyze how teachers integrate elements of Multimodal Literacy and the inhibiting and supporting factors when using Multimodal Literacy in their reading instruction. It focused on students’ limited English proficiency in understanding the content of English texts and teachers’ challenges in integrating effective teaching strategies using Multimodal Literacy. The methodology used in this study was a qualitative case study, with data collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews. Observations were conducted over two sessions in class VIII, focusing on four elements of Multimodal Literacy: Text, Images, Sound, and Other Media Forms, along with the inhibiting and supporting factors for teachers when integrating Multimodal Literacy. Interviews were conducted with one English teacher and six students to understand their experiences with Multimodal Literacy in the reading instruction process. Data analysis was carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This approach enabled the researcher to obtain rich and in-depth data about Multimodal Literacy in the field. The results showed that text and image elements were the most frequently used in reading activities, while audio and other forms of media were used to a limited extent due to constraints in facilities and technical skills. The primary challenges faced by the teachers included limited technology and the need to adapt teaching methods to multimodal elements. Supporting factors included teachers’ motivation and students’ openness to more interactive learning methods. This study recommended increased access to technology and training for teachers to optimize the use of Multimodal Literacy.
