ABSTRACT LENI HARYATI, 2314.005. Using Storyboard Technique in Teaching reading comprehension: An Experimental Study in 8th Grade Students of MTsN 2 Bukittinggi . A Thesis, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2019. This research was due to discover the effect of using storyboard to improve students reading comprehension. It has been done at MTsN 2 Bukittinggi because most of students in MTsN 2 Bukittinggi still ecounter problems in mastering English especially reading comprehension. Most of the students were passive to read the text, especially when the teacher gave a long and uninteresting text. It can be seen from most of the students just waited for the teacher to explain it and did try to answer the question. Consequenly, only some of the students got involved in he classroom activity. This research use experimental research. The researcher use quasi experimental design by using the pretest-postest control design. The population of this research was the eight grade students at MTsN 2 Bukittinggi. The sample was VIII.3 was treated as controll class by using conventional technique and VIII.6 was treated as experimental class and taught by using storyboard technique. To determine sample, the researcher use purposive sampling technique. The data was got through pretest and posttest to experimental and controll groups. To analyze the data, the researcher use the normality by using lilliefors test and the homogeneity test by using F test and to test the hypothesis the researcher use t-test formula and consulted the result into t-table with level of significant α=0.05. From the result and accounting the pre-test and pos-test scores of experiment class, it was found that the t-obtained (3.465) was higher than the t-table (1.6772) with degree of freedom (df) =42 and α=0.05. so, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there was significant effect of Storyboards technieque to the student reading comprehension. Then, the calculation of post-test both classes: was experimental class and controll class , it was obtained that the t-obtained was (3,143), which was higher than the t-table (1.6772) . with degree of freedom 25+25-2=48 and α =0.05 So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there is significant difference between using Storyboard technique and conventional technique . Then t-obtained both of classes is (3,143) which was higher then t-table (2.0106) with α=0.025. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that Storyboard technique better than conventional technique in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text. So, it can be concluded that the entire hypothesis is accepted. It is proved that using Storyboard technique as a reading can help the students in improving and engage their reading comprehension.
