Abstrak
Generation Z was very familiar with technological advancements and the use of gadgets. In the aspect of education, gadgets helped make it easier for everyone to access various educational videos. One of the most widely used platforms was YouTube. Based on previous researchers' studies, the use of YouTube as a learning medium, especially for English, showed that YouTube could be an effective medium for improving students' language skills. Additionally, another factor that could support the effectiveness of a medium was having good habits, in this case, directed learning habits. Therefore, this study aimed to see if there was a relationship between the habit of watching English language content on YouTube and students' listening skills. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data for this research were collected by distributing questionnaires to students via Google Forms and by using students' final exam scores in the listening course. The population in this research was English education stundets at UIN Sjech M.Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi with a total population of 152 people. The sample in this research was choose using purposive sampling with the total 35 students that has been choose by the researcher with certain criteria in this research. The analysis results showed that the relationship between the habit of watching English content on YouTube and students' listening skills was very low. This was evident from the results of the correlation test using Pearson's product moment, which showed a result of -0.074. This indicated a low relationship between variable X and variable Y, with a correlation range between -0.60 and 0.79, interpreted as a moderate negative relationship.
