Abstrak
Nova Angraiyani, 2313.053, The Correlation Between Student’s Reading Habit and Their Writing Ability In Writing Paragraf at the Fifth Semester of English Students in IAIN Bukittinggi, 2017/ 2018. This research was conducted since there were many problems in writing ability which were correlated students reading habit. There were some problems students reading habit and their writing ability in paragraph. Some of the students did not accustom to read English books. Most of the students had limited idea in their writing process and had low grammar competency. Based on the interview result and documentation of writing test paragraph, the researcher found that the students’ reading habit and writing test paragraph were varied. This research aimed to discover the correlation between student’s reading habit and their writing ability paragraph. This research was a correlational research. The total of population was 129 students, the sample was 24 students which consisted of 6 students per class and the researcher used random sampling in determining the sample. The data was gotten through questionnaire about students reading habit and writing test paragraph that the researcher distributed to students. To analyze the data, product moment Coefficient Correlation () was used to test the Hypothesis, this research used r-hitung formula and consult the result into r-table with =0,05. The analysis of the data, it was found that the coefficient of correlation gotten was 0.451 in the range 0.40-0.70 or was in enough correlation. It means there was positive correlation between students’ reading habit and their writng ability in paragraf. In addition, Besides, based on hypothesis testing, the rxy score gotten was 0,1 while r-table on df = 22 and =0.05 was 0.404 It means there was positive correlation between students’ reading habit and their writng ability in paragraph. In other words, the Ha which stated that there is significant correlation between students’ reading habit and their writing ability was accepted. In conclusion, there was enough correlation between students reading habit and their writing ability in paragraph, if the students had good reading habit it will increase their writing ability.
