Abstrak
This study aims to analyze students' errors made by the third-grade students of MTsN 6 Agam in using verbs. Specifically, it aimed at identifying the types of errors in using verbs in the past form in writing recount text and finding out the causes why the students make such errors. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted by following the error analysis procedure: collecting samples of language learners, identifying errors, describing errors, explaining errors, and evaluating errors. The data source of this research is the third-grade students of MTsN 6 Agam which consists of five classes, namely class IX1 to class IX5. In this study, researchers used purposive sampling as a sampling technique for class IX1 consisting of 29 people. Furthermore, data were collected through tests conducted by students Based on the findings and data analysis, the results showed that students made errors in three types of errors namely omission, addition, and misformation errors. From the frequency of each type of error, there were 9 errors of omission, 12 errors of addition, and there were 73 errors of misformation which are the most frequent errors made by students. Based on Touchie's theory, it is interpreted that the causes of errors made by students are caused by simplification, overgeneralization, hypercorrection, avoidance, and false concept hypothesis
