Abstrak
ABSTRACT Tri Dilla Oktiva : 2314.057, “An Analysis of Students’Grammatical Errors in Writing A Text at The The Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 1 Matur in Academic Year 2018/2019. A ThesisState Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Bukittinggi. This research has been done because the researcher found the problems at the eleventh grade students in writing a text. The first problem, some of the students made a lot of errors in grammar. The second problem was the students made mechanical error in writing a text. The third problem wasthe students had difficulty to express and generate their ideas into writing. This study aimed to find out the types of errors made by the students and the percentages of each type of students’ error in writing a text. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students that consist of 108 students. The students were divided into five classes. The number of samples of this research were 27 students. The researcher took 25% of the population by using random sampling, because the population were more than 100. To collect the data, the researcher usedwriting test. The resultof the research showed that there are six types of their errors committed by the students in writing a text. They wereincorrect indefinite article, incorrect possessive case, incorrect third person singular verb, noun phrase, verb phrase and word order.The total of students’grammatical errors were174 errors. Based on the result of research, error in noun phrase was 67 (38,5). Error in verb phrase was 65 (37,35). Error in word order was 20 (11,49). Error in incorrect third person singular verb was 13 (7,47). Error in incorrect indenfinite article was 6 (2,29). Error in incorrect possessive case was 2 (1,14). The highest of students’ errors were innoun phraseabout 67 errors or the percentage was 38,5%. The lowest of students’ errors were in incorrectpossessive case about 2 errors or the percentage was 1,14%. Therefore, based on the result that has been obtained by the researcher, it is concluded that the students made some grammatical errors in writing a text.
