Abstrak
ABSTRACT ATIKA MELIANI, 2313.003, An Error Analysis of Preposition Used by the Second Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kamang Magek in Academic Year 2017/2018, a Thesis, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi. This research was due to several problems that were faced by the second grade students of SMPN 1 Kamang Magek in using preposition. The students tend to made errors although they had learned preposition before. In this research, the researcher focused on the types of error made by the students and the causes. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher used documentation and interview to collect the data. Descriptive qualitative is conducted to collect the data of the subject in order to answer the question related to the status of subject. The reseacher collected the data and describe it based on current status found by the reseracher. In determining the sample, the researcher used total sampling; they are all 37 students at the second grade students of SMPN 1 Kamang Magek. Based on the analysis, it is found that the students did all the types of error. They are: omission (error in preposition; to, above, at, on, under, near, behind, beside, between), addition (error in simple addition preposition; in, behind), misformation (error in regularization preposition; in, at, on, from, under, near, behind, beside, between), and misordering (error in regularization; behind, above, in front of, beside, under). It is also found the causes of students’ error in using preposition. There are five causes of students’ errors. In this research, the reseracher found four of them, there are: interlingual error, intralingual error, induced error, and inadequate learning. Interlingual error happens because the students’ are influence by their first language. Intalingual error happens because are influence by their second language. Induced error happens because of the influence of their friends in learning and inadequate learning happens because they do not know the rule in using preposition
