Abstrak
ABSTRACT Anggi Silvia Anita, 2315136. “The Effect of Using Powtoon toward Students’ Motivation in Writing at the Eighth Grade of MTSN 1 AGAM” a thesis. English Education Study Program. IAIN Bukittinggi, 2020. This research background by students’ problems at the eighth grade of MTsN 1 Agam related to students’ motivation in writing. The purposes of this research were to know whether there was a significant effect and whether there was a significant difference by using Powtoon toward students’ motivation in writing and to know whether students’ motivation in writing by using Powtoon was better than without using Powtoon. This research was classified as a quasi-experimental research. There were experimental group that was VIII.1 class (37 students) and control group that was VIII.2 class (34 students). The sample was selected by using cluster random sampling. Questionnaire instrument used Likert scale with 1-5 score. The data was obtained by pre-test and post-test in questionnaire form that was called pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire. Pre-questionnaire was given to both groups before doing the treatment and post-questionnaire was given after doing the treatment. The treatment by using Powtoon only gave for experimental group. After the data was collected, the researcher analyzed the data used T-test in SPSS application with significant of α = 0,05. The researcher used two kinds of t-test that were paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. From the statistical analysis by using paired sample t-test was gotten the first hypothesis there was a significant effect of using Powtoon toward students’ motivation in writing. Data analysis showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because tobtained (4,722) was higher than ttable (2,028) for df 36 with the level significant 0,025. Whereas for the second hypothesis and the third hypothesis, data analysis used independent sample t-test so the second hypothesis there was a significant difference of using Powtoon toward students’ motivation in writing. Data analysis showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because tobtained (4,508) was higher than ttable (1,667) for df 69 with the level significant 0,05. Last, the third hypothesis was students’ motivation in writing by using Powtoon is better than students’ motivation in writing without using Powtoon. Data analysis showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because tobtained (4,508) was higher than ttable (1,667) for df 69 with the level significant 0,05. Hence, it can be concluded that Powtoon can affect students' motivation in writing to become better than without using Powtoon. Keywords : Powtoon, Students’ Motivation, Writing
