Abstrak
Achnes Sintia Zilvi. 2313.025. Students’ Need Assessment in English Materials for Accounting in SMK Gajah Tongga Bukittinggi. Thesis. IAIN Bukittinggi. This research concerns with the students’ needs assessment on materials of English for accounting in SMK Gajah Tongga Bukittinggi. This research is conducted because the teacher used inappropriate materials for accounting students. This research is aimed at to find out the material needs of students in grade Tenth of Accounting at SMK Gajah Tongga Bukittinggi. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative research. The participants of the research were the tenth grade students of accounting study programme at SMK Gajah Tongga Bukittinggi in academic year 2017/2018. There is a class of the tenth grade students of accounting study programme with the total of students was fourteen (14) students. The participant of this research was determined by using purposive sampling. The researcher took all students in accounting study programme as the sample, so there were 14 students as the sample in this research. The instrumentation in this research was questionnaire that had been given to the students. In this research, the researcher used type of Likert Scale questionnaire, which was indicated that strong agree, agree, less agree, not agree and not agree at all. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the percentage formula proposed by Sudijono and Subana. The research findings showed that; in Listening there were 64.29% students’ need Listening material related personal needed, and 65.35% students’ need Listening material related to professional needed in accountant. In Speaking there were 54.76% students’ need Speaking material related to personal needed, and 61.22% students’ need Speaking material related to professional needed in accountant. In Reading there were 73.81% students need Reading material related to personal needed, and 62.86% students need Reading material related to professional needed in accountant. In Writing there were 54.76% students need Writing material related to personal needed, and 60.00% students need Writing material related to professional needed in accountant. There were some indicators of material needs of students in grade Tenth of Accounting at SMK Gajah Tongga Bukittinggi. They were about knowledge and skills, job and tasks, competency-based needs and strategic needs. Keywords: Needs, assessment and material
