Abstrak
ABSTRACT Putri Nofriyanti, 2315032, “Needs Analysis for Conducting Intensive Course Program at English Education Section of State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi.” a thesis, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, 2019 The research was due to several problems found in the field; the needs analysis which has been conducted is not maximal yet. Another problem related to the indication two main problems in the implementation of IC program which are books and lack of team teaching members. In other words, there were still several problems. The aim of this research is to find out the students needs in learning basic English through IC program. This research was used mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) as the method of this research. The quantitative data are the main data of this research and the qualitative data are as the supporting data. The population was collected from 206 students at third and fifth semester of English Education Study Program of IAIN Bukittinggi and used total sampling technique. In distributing the data, the research used google form and only 37 respondents who gave the feedback to the questionnaire distributed through google form. The qualitative data are gotten from 5 lecturers as the interviewee. Additionally, to analyze the data, the researcher identified the respondents answer and was strengthen by qualitative data and after that made a conclusion. The finding of this research reveals that students’ necessities (76.75%) which means that the students agree that they need the fours skills and three components in English, students’ lack, 42.17% of students who are lacks in English competence specifically on grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, speaking and writing, next the students’ want, 84.97% students want a flexible program which can improve their English ability, a program which have an outdoor activity, and the book which consists their own culture. Thus, students’ assessment in IC program were still a debatable topic among lecturer and it still need further revision in order to meet the students’ need, 68% of students agree that the assessment in IC program their grade which was written in their score reflected their comprehension, IC book, 73.72% of students agree that it has already fulfilled the students’ need but it still need improvement in order to serve best material to the students.
