Abstrak
ABSTRACT Bellia Syafaal, 2318.019. The Effect of Project Based Learning on English Achievement of Explanation Text at the Second Grade of SMA N 1 Pulau Punjung. A Thesis, Bukittinggi Islamic State University, 2022. This research was done due to several problems found; Students’ English achievement was still below the KKM, some students still did not participate in group discussion, some students still did the cheating in learning, students learn English, but they cannot use it communicatively. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is related to this problem because the project-based learning is enabled to accommodate the achievement of three Basic Competencies, namely attitudes, knowledge and skills in the Indonesian 2013 Curriculum. This research used experimental research. The researcher used pre-experimental design by using the static group comparison design. The population of this research was the second grades students at SMA N 1 Pulau Punjung. The sample was XI IPS 2 which was treated as experimental class and taught by using Project-based Learning model and XI IPS 3 was treated as control class and taught by using conventional model. To determine the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling technique because both classes are taught by the same teacher. To analyze the data, the researcher used Liliefors test for normality test. Then to test the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test and (α) = 0.05 Based on the calculation post-test result, the mean score of experimental class is 84.83. It is greater than the mean score of control class which is 77.81. then the standard deviation of each class is obtained. The researcher used the t-test formula by comparing the post test of experimental and control classes through SPSS by using Mann-Whitney Based on the output of Test Statistics above, the value of Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) is 0.003 0.05. it means that Ha is accepted. There is a significant different between students who are taught by using Project based Learning and the students who are not taught by using Project based Learning. The result is also indicated by the mean score of post-test result of experimental class (84.83) is bigger than the control post-test result (77.81). It means that the students who are taught by using Project based Learning is better than the students who are not taught by using Project based Learning. To sum up, Project-based learning has a significant effect on English achievement of explanation text at the second grade of SMA N 1 Pulau Punjung.
