Abstrak
ABSTRACT Fatima, 2316.038. “The Correlation Between Students’ Interest in Speaking and Speaking Achievement at the XI Grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi Academic Years 2020/2021”, A Thesis, State Islamic Institute Of Bukittinggi, 2021. The background of this research was the disinterest of some of students in following English subjects. The interest affects speaking ability. Then, the researcher also focus to three guestion in this research such as; Is there any significant correlation between students’ interest in speaking and their achievement in speaking?, how large the significant correlation between student’ interest in speaking and their achievement in speaking?, what is the magnitude of students interest in speaking and speaking achievement in speaking?. Relate to this condition, the researcher wanted to know the relationship between students’ interest and speaking achievement in second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi in Academic years 2020/2021. This research used a quantitative approach in the type of the correlation design. The population of this research was all students in second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi with a sample consisting of 71 students who were taken through purposive technique. The data was gotten by questionnaires and test. Researchers used SPSS for 20 windows to manage data. Researchers used the Person Product Moment formula to determine the direction of the correlation and the magnitude of the correlation between student interest in speaking and student achievement. The results of the research show that there is a correlation between students’ interest and speaking achievement at the second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi academic years 2020/2021. The researcher found that the coefficient of correlation between students’ interest and speaking achievement at the second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi was 0,508. The correlation was positive and significant. It means that Ho is rejected. Thus, there is a positive correlation between students’ interest and speaking achievement at the second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi. It means that the more interest the student, the more proficient s/he is in speaking achievement. In conclusion, this research is done for finding the correlation between students’ interest and speaking achievement at the second grade of MAN 2 Bukittinggi.
