Abstrak
ABSTRACT Putri Hulandari, 2315.135, Students’ Perception on Teaching Technique Used by The Teacher English: A Study in MAN 3 Pasaman Barat. The research was done because the researcher found several problem in students’ perception. The problem that arise include: First, the study found that students perceived there were some teaching techniques applied by the teacher that they liked and disliked. Second, the teacher applied Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). Second, some of the students respond well when the teacher invites to speak but some of them still feel afraid, lazy and afraid to being wrong in the teaching and learning process The design of this research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data was gotten through questionnaire by using Likert scale and interview. The population of this research were 57 students and a teacher English of MAN 3 Pasaman Barat which come from XII.IPA 1 and XII IPA 2. To analyze the data of questionnaire, the researcher using Sugiyono (Likert Scale). The technique of data analysis was through the Data Collection, Data Reduction, Display the Data and Conclusion. The result of this research showed that first, students’ perception of this finding was good enough. Because of the 20 questionnaire item and 57 students tended to answer “often”. The second finding was about the implementation of teaching technique used by the teacher in teaching English. Based on the results of interviews that the researcher conducted with an English teacher, it can be concluded that the teacher has applied the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) technique and in applying it the teacher uses games and dialogue in learning speaking. With the use of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) techniques, students should be able to improve their speaking skills and increase their vocabulary, but there are some students who are still low in speaking skills.
