Abstrak
ABSTRACT Fetri Oktavia, 2311.006. The Students’ Perception on Psychological Environment in English Language Learning (A Study on Second Year Students of SMP N 3 Sungai Puar in the Academic Year of 2016/2017). A Thesis, English Education Department, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2017. This research was due to several problems in English language learning. the problems refer to the students’ perception while English learning process. For example, teacher sometimes late or not be present may be cause she is teacher in two schools by long distant. And it can make students to be negative perception on their classroom. Then, students had different perception towards their classroom, especially psychological environment. It’s essential that teacher needs to know the students’ perception on psychological environment whether students mainstream negative or positive. It can be cosideration to teacher in managing classroom environment. In this term, teacher needs to know the aspects of psychological environment that should be maintained or corrected in order to create an effective learning. So that it will can improve students’ motivation in English language learning. The population of this research was the totality of second year students in SMP N 3 Sungai Puar which consisted of 52 students. The sample data was taken from total sampling technique because the population was less than 100. This research was a descriptive quantitative research. In order to collect the data, the research used questionnaire which included 30 items. The questionnaire provides five options: always, often, sometimes, seldom and never. To analyse the data the researcher used the percentage for each item, then calculated them to find the mean score of each aspect (students’involvement, students’ affiliation, teacher support, teacher - task orientation and norms in the classroom). The findings indicated that the students’ perception on psychological environment by second years students at junior high school state 3 Sungai puar was good by the mean score is 37,75%. It means that totally students have a good view of their classroom. And they feel comfort and interested to study. It shows that students have positive perception. It seems from the highest mean scores: students’ involvement is sometimes option as much as 29,48% and students’ affiliation as much as 32,7%. In addition, the students’ perception on teacher task - orientation is always option as much as 39,22%, teacher support is always option as much as 37,52% and norms in the classroom is also always as much as 39,83%.
