The difficulty of students in understanding reading, especially finding detailed information still becomes the main problems in teaching reading. One of the solutions to break the problem is practicing visualization strategy in teaching reading. Visualization strategy is recognized as one of the strategies that are effective and easy to apply in the teaching and learning process. The strategy is used to create their own images from the text in their minds. The image created in the minds of students is strongly influenced by their background knowledge. Strategies also help readers to find detailed information. This study aims to determine the application of visualization strategies to improve reading comprehension. This study applied a library research approach. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. This study found that visualization strategies can improve students' reading comprehension, especially in understanding detailed information.

ABSTRACT Melia Santi, 2316.017, "The Use Of Visualization Strategies To Improve Reading Comprehension." A Thesis, English Education Department, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, 2021. This research was conducted to determine the use of visualization strategies to improve reading comprehension. Some of the problems faced by students include their ability to use reading strategies. Therefore, students do not use reading strategies effectively to improve their reading comprehension. This design of this research was library research. The research was conducted by collecting data in the form of documents such as journals and other people's research results. The document used by the researcher discusses the application of the visulization strategy to improve reading comprehension at the junior high school. The results showed that the use of visualization strategies can improve reading comprehension. This is shown from the document data obtained by the researcher. There was an improvement in the average value of the pre-test and post-test scores from the two data sources obtained by the researcher. Beberapa masalah yang dihadapi siswa antara lain kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan strategi membaca. Oleh karena itu, siswa tidak menggunakan strategi membaca secara efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaannya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui penggunaan strategi visualisasi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian pustaka. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data berupa dokumen seperti jurnal dan hasil penelitian orang lain. Dokumen yang digunakan peneliti membahas tentang penerapan strategi visualisasi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan di tingkat sekolah menengah pertama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi visualisasi dapat meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan. Hal ini terlihat dari data dokumen yang diperoleh peneliti. Ada peningkatan nilai rata-rata nilai pre-test dan post-test dari kedua sumber data yang diperoleh peneliti. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi visualisasi dapat meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan.
