Hainul Fatimah, 2320079, “Listening Strategies Used in Listening Activities by the Fifth Semester English Education Students in Academic Year 2025/2026 of UIN Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi”. A Thesis, English Education Study Program, UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2025. There are some problems in listening activities, first, many students have not optimally utilized the available media and technology to support their listening activities independently. Second, most students don't reflect on or evaluate the listening strategies they use on their listening activities. And the last, a lack of variety in listening strategies is common among students on their listening activities. This quantitative research aims to identify the listening strategies employed by fifth-semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Using a survey method, data were collected from the entire population of 52 students. The study focuses on five types of listening strategies classification: memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, and social strategies. The findings reveal that cognitive strategies are the most frequently used by the students, involving activities such as note-taking, summarizing, and information organization. In contrast, memory strategies are the least used, suggesting their limited effectiveness unless combined with other strategies. Overall, the students were found to use cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, and social strategies at a moderate level, while memory strategies were used at a low level. These results highlight the importance of strategy use in developing effective listening skills, with cognitive strategies playing a central role in students' listening activities.
