Abstrak
ABSTRACT Hayatul Akhyar Apriana, 2315080. The Correlation between Students’ Reading Speed and Students’ Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text of the Second-Grade Students of Islamic Boarding School Miftahul Ulumi Syar’iyah (MAS MUS) Canduang. A Thesis, English Education Department, Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Islamic University of Bukittinggi, 2022 The research was done because of some problems that researcher found in the Second-Grade Students of Islamic Boarding School Miftahul Ulumi Syar’iyah (MAS MUS) Canduang. First, students need a lot of time to understand the text and it wasted the time. Second, the students did not understand the reading content that affects to the results. The aim of the research was to find out the whether there is any significant correlation, correlation direction and magnitude between the students’ reading speed and students’ reading comprehension in the narrative text In this research, the researcher used quantitative research. The design of this research was correlation research between two variables which were reading speed and reading comprehension. The sample of this research was the entire 11th grade student of MAS MUS Canduang. The instrument of this research were reading speed and reading comprehension test The researcher found that there was significant correlation between reading speed and reading comprehension. This means that as reading speed increases, reading comprehension also increases. The correlation direction between reading speed and reading comprehension was positive. This means that better a students’ reading speed, the better his comprehension. The magnitude of the correlation was moderate. In other word, there was moderate correlation between reading speed and reading comprehension Key Terms : Reading Speed, Reading Comprehension
