Abstrak
Vocabulary is one of aspects that must mastered by the language learners. Hovewer, the learners still have difficulties in mastering vocabulary. The problem is the learners difficult to learn some aspects of vocabulary. One of aspects are word form and meaning. The learners often difficult in differenties between etymology, coinage, clipping and others. The learners still strange when the hear it. Therefore, the researcher offer senmantic mapping to make learners understand about word formation and meaning. The purpose of the research is to facilitate learners in understand word formation and meaning of the word. Then, the teacher can explain the problem of the learners face. This reseach was library reseach.. This research was conducted on November 2021 to January 2022 in library of State Islamic of Bukittinggi. This research was used to collect and analyze the data from many revelant references such as books, journals and other sources. The result of this research focuses on the use of semantic mapping in teaching vocabulary. The vocabulary mastery divided into two part namely word formation and meaning. In word formation, the students will learn about etymology, coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion, acronym,deerivation. Whereas, in meaning students learn about into antonym, synonym, meronym, taxonomy,monosemy, homonym, and polysemy. Key words: Vocabulary mastery, semantic mapping
