Abstrak
ABSTRACT Ismarni, 2314.103, Designing Material of Teaching Functional Grammar at the Fifth Semester English Students Academic Year 2018/2019 IAIN of Bukittinggi, A Thesis, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, 2019. This research was done because the researcher found phenomena in students’ learning grammar. Based on preliminary research, the researcher found that the curriculum had used in teaching grammar is KKNI curriculum. One of them is grammar. The materials taught on grammar subject to KKNI curriculum is functional grammar. While, the researcher found that the material still disposed to traditional grammar. And, the students don’t have module that material connected to functional grammar. So, some of student were still difficult compare of functional grammar. Hence, this research was done at the fifth semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Bukittinggi academic year 2018/ 2019, to find out the learning needs of the fifth semester English students, and to design materials of teaching functional grammar at the fifth semester English students. The kind of this research is Research and Development (R&D. The data was gotten through questionnaire by using Likert scale. The populations of this research were 113 students of the fifth semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Bukittinggi academic year 2018/ 2019 which come from A, B, C and D class. The researcher used purposive sampling to determine the sample. The samples were 27 students researched. The questionnaire used to determine of need analysis and validity product was given to three experts. Expert of materials were Dr. Veni Roza,S.S,.M. Pd, expert of language was Desi Ratna Sari ,M.Hum and expert of Design was Dr. Arifmiboy, S.Ag.M.Pd. To analyze the data of questionnaire, the researcher used Sugiyonos’ theory or (Likert Scale). In order to find percentage of the data, the researcher used tabulate data for the interpretation of the data. The results of this research showed that need analysis of student’s questionnaire that some of students were difficult for looking the materials of grammar because there was no grammar module that lecturer has provided. And they will be interested to study the grammar when they have module, it will help student to study grammar. Finding of functional grammar module described there are introduction of topic, learning outcomes, summary, and self assessment exercise in each topics. This module will use as additional material by lecturer. And it was proven by the mean value obtained from the questionnaire distributed to the three experts. The mean value of this material is 3,59. It is considered in the Very Good category. Key words: Designing, Teaching Grammar, and Functional Grammar
