Abstrak
ABSTRACT Aidyna Agustina, 2314.029, An Analysis of Students’ Anxiety in Academic Writing at Sixth Semester Students of English Education Department in IAIN Bukittinggi Academic Year 2017/2018. This research was due to several problems in academic writing subject, the problem related to the students’ anxiety while academic writing learning process. Based on preliminary research, the researcher found the students had low of self confidence, they felt difficult in forming ideas to write writing, they felt classroom environment which was not conducive and they were afraid to be commented negatively by lecturer. Thus, the researcher conducted the research in order to know what the causes of students’ anxiety in academic writing. This research was a descriptive quantitative research. The sample was sixth semester students of English education which consisted of 40 students. The sample was choosing by using cluster random sampling. The result of the research showed that the students have anxiety in academic writing that caused by several aspects. Related to students have anxiety in academic writing of cognitive anxiety (56.56%), somatic anxiety (48.57%), avoidance anxiety (29.06%), fear of negative evaluation and fear of test (72.5%), time pressure (27.5%), low of self confidence (57.5%), insufficient writing technique (47.5%), language difficulties (95%), lack of topical knowledge (47.5%), lack of experience or insufficient writing practice (50%), pressure perfect work (45%), high frequency of assignment (42.5%). Hence, most of students had anxiety in academic writing related the items that asked to students. Key word: Academic Writing, Anxiety, Writing Anxiety
