Abstrak
ABSTRACT Nurul Khaira, 2313.096. Students’ and Lecturers’ Perceptions Toward Teaching grammar in IAIN Bukittinggi in Academic Year 2017/2018. A Thesis, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Bukittinggi, 2018. This research was due to several problems found in the field about students’ and lecturers’ perceptions in teaching grammar. It has been done on the third semester students at IAIN Bukittinggi because all of the third semester students had studied grammar since the first semester however so many student still faced difficulties in understanding grammar and applied grammar to their communicative language. This research was a descriptive quantitative research. The data were collected by using questionnaire. The population of this research was all of the third semester students and lecturers in English Education Department. The researcher used random sampling technique to determine the sample. The sample was 37 respondents in academic year 2017/2018. To analyze the data, the researcher calculated the percentage of each statement given by the students and lecturers, and then found out the mean of each sub variable. After the researcher analyzed the data, it could be concluded that the larger percentage of the students generally had a positive perception on the seven themes in teaching grammar aspects of debate technique. It could be seen from the percentages gotten for each aspect where the percentages of the students who chose the positive responses were larger than the percentages of the students who chose the negative responses in each aspect in teaching grammar.
