Abstrak
<p align="center"> <strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p> <p align="center"> </p> <p> <strong>Ayu Aprilia Putri Utami : 2311.026, “ An Analysis of Using Metacognitive</strong><strong> Strategies in Reading by the Fifth Semester Students of English Education</strong><strong> Department of IAIN Bukittinggi in academic years 2015/2016”.</strong></p> <p> </p> <p> This research was done because the researcher found that many students have problems in reading. The problems that found in preliminary research were some students are lack of strategies in reading, then they were lazy to read because some of them felt that the ways of teaching is not interesting, and also because of limited media that used by the teacher in the classroom. One way that used by the students for solving the problems in reading is by using metacognitive strategies. Due to this phenomenon, the researcher wants to know how the students used metacognitive strategies in reading.</p> <p> This research is descriptive qualitative research. The informants were the fifth semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Bukittinggi. It consists of 30 students. The informants were taken by using purposive sampling, and the data gotten through questioner. It consists of three sets of strategies in metacognitive strategies, for the triangulation the researcher used interview.</p> <p> The finding of this research is all of metacognitive strategies used by the fifth semester students in English Education Department of IAIN Bukittinggi. The strategy mostly used by the students was centering your learning, followed by arranging and planning your learning, and evaluating your learning.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> Key words : Metacognitive Strategies; Reading.</p>
