Masalah berbicara siswa kelas dua SMA Muhammmadiyah Padang Panjang
ABSTRACT Gebi Rahmatia Putry: 2316092, “Speaking Problems faced by Students at Second Grade in SMA Muhammadiyah Padang Panjang”, A Thesis, State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, 2021. In English speaking, some students will make problems when they try to uttered words, phrases or sentences. In the preliminary research, the researcher found some problems related to speaking problem. First, the student’s didn’t have idea to speak; second when some students spoke they were failed to pronoun the words correctly. And the last, some student lack self-confidence and worried making mistake.The purpose of this research was to find out speaking problems faced by students in SMA Muhammadiyah Padang Panjang based on inhibition, nothing to say, low or uneven participation, and mother tongue. This research used quantitative research method. The population was 34 students and sample was 34 students at second grade in SMA Muhammadiyah. The researcher used total sampling technique because the population was less than 100 students. Instrument of this research was closed-questionnaire which consists of 20 items. The researcher did the validity instrument through three experts. The result of the study showed the speaking problems faced by students at second grade in SMA Muhammadiyah Padang Panjang. First, mother tongue use was 78.82%. It was categorized high problematic in speaking English. Second, inhibition was 76.23%. It was categorized high problematic in speaking English. Third, nothing to say was 75.17%. It was categorized high problematic in speaking English. And low or uneven participation was 58.47%. It was categorized enough problematic in speaking English. Thus, the result can be stated the speaking problem in SMA Muhammadiyah Padang Panjang is categorized high problematic in speaking English.
