Yanda Mahata Putra, 2319050. “Grammatical Errors in misuse found in students’ Writing Narrative Text of the Fourth Semester Students of English Department”. Thesis, English Language Education Study Program, State Islamic University of Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2026. The ability to write grammatically accurate narrative texts is a crucial pillar for English Department students, yet maintaining such consistency frequently triggers a heavy cognitive load. This study aimed to identify, classify, and analyze the frequency and types of specific grammatical errors (misuse) occurring in narrative texts written by fourth semester tudents. The primary focus of this analysis was directed at three critical areas: errors in the use of past tenses, incorrect forms of irregular verbs, and subject-verb agreement (SVA) mismatches. The method employed was qualitative content analysis. Data were collected from documents of 14 narrative texts written by English Education students at UIN Bukittinggi during the 2025/2026 academic year, which were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data trustworthiness was ensured through an inter- rater verification process with a language expert. The data were analyzed through the stages of identification, description, explanation, and percentage tabulation. The results of the study revealed 152 cases of grammatical errors. The most dominant error category was Past Tense Misuse with 68 occurrences (44.7%), followed by Irregular Verb Misuse with 49 occurrences (32.2%), and Subject- Verb Agreement (SVA) Mismatch with 35 occurrences (23.1%). These findings demonstrate the students' lack of grammatical consistency and failure to fully internalize the target language system, which hinders narrative fluency and highlights the need for more rigorous pedagogical intervention.
