Abstrak
This research aims to develop an "Islamic Integrated Intercultural Communication Book" specifically for students in Islamic-based higher education institutions. During preliminary research conducted in March 2025 at UIN Bukittinggi, a significant problem was identified: students showed clear indications of both ethnocentrism and xenocentrism. Many students perceived Indonesian culture as inferior to Western cultures, such as those of the United States and Britain, and struggled to reconcile their religious identity with global communication theories. There was a pressing need for educational resources that bridge the gap between Islamic values and intercultural competence to help students navigate diverse environments without losing their grip on their faith. The study followed a Research and Development (R&D) methodology using the ADDIE model, which includes five phases: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. In the analysis phase, the researcher identified performance gaps and student needs through interviews and observations. The development phase involved creating a textbook prototype that integrates Quranic verses, Hadiths, and Islamic ethics with intercultural communication principles. The book was then implemented in a pilot test with 2nd-semester English education students at UIN Bukittinggi. Data were collected using a mixed-methods approach, including documentation, questionnaires, and pre- and post-tests, which were analyzed using both descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings indicate that the developed book is highly valid, practical, and effective for use in higher education. Statistical analysis using a paired samples t-test showed a significant improvement in students' intercultural communication skills, with a t-statistic of -9.375 and a p-value of 0.000. Evaluation results further revealed that the book’s layout, clear instructions, and relevant examples made it easy for students to navigate and engage with the material.
