ABSTRACT Afzanal Qadri, 2321006, “The Effect Of Using Duolingo App Toward Students’ Speaking Skill At Smpn 2 Ampek Angkek”. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2025. This research was conducted to evaluate the significant impact of utilizing the Duolingo application on students’ speaking performance at SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek. Given that oral communication is a fundamental aspect of English proficiency, many students still struggle with speaking anxiety and a lack of practice. Consequently, this study explores how the integration of digital learning platforms like Duolingo can serve as an effective tool to foster students' speaking fluency, providing them with a more interactive and accessible learning experience. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi- experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test. The population of the study consisted of eighth-grade students, and the sample was divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught speaking using the Duolingo application, while the control class received conventional speaking instruction. The data were collected through speaking tests administered before and after the treatment and were assessed based on accuracy and fluency. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26, including descriptive statistics, normality test, homogeneity test, and paired sample t-test. The results of the paired sample t-test revealed a significance value (p) of .000, which is lower than the standard significance level of 0.05. This statistical evidence indicates that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, confirming a significant effect of using the Duolingo application on students’ speaking ability at SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Duolingo serves as an effective supplementary tool to enhance students' oral performance in the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom context.
