This research, titled "Gender-Based Comparative Analysis of Diphthong Articulatory Phonetic in English Speaking at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi," aims to investigate whether there is a significant difference in diphthong pronunciation between male and female students and if male students tend to make more articulatory errors compared to female students. English, as a global lingua franca, presents challenges in pronunciation for Indonesian learners due to variations in diphthong systems between the two languages. A preliminary observation revealed inconsistencies in diphthong pronunciation among students, notably in sounds like /ei/, /əʊ/, and /ɑʊ/, with variations observed between male and female speakers. To address this, the study utilized an acoustic analysis of F1 and F2 formant scores, converted to the Bark scale, to quantify pronunciation accuracy through a "deviation score" for each diphthong production. The findings from the data revealed a statistically significant difference in diphthong pronunciation accuracy between male and female university students. Female students exhibited a lower mean deviation score (0.71000, SD = 0.520517) compared to male students (1.90653, SD = 0.297785), indicating higher accuracy in their diphthong articulation. This suggests that gender significantly influences students' ability to pronounce diphthong vowels, with male students consistently showing greater acoustic deviation and making more mistakes in articulating diphthongs.
