Abstrak
ABSTRACT RINA SURYANI. NIM: 2320040, The Effect of Using Question Answer Relationship Strategy Towards Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text At Ninth Grade Students SMPN 1 Padang Gelugur. A Thesis, State of Islamic University Bukittinggi 2025. The study aimed to determine the effect of the Question Answer Relationship Strategy on students’ reading comprehension. This research was conducted with ninth-grade students SMPN 1 Padang Gelugur, who had difficulties in reading comprehension. Some of the student had difficulty finding the main idea, drawing conclusions or making inferences from the information implied in the text and also in finding the meaning of the words in context, Additionally, the teacher at the school was still using conventional methods in the learning process. The type of research used was a quasi–experimental design. The population consisted of ninth-grade students in SMPN 1 Padang Gelugur. The sample was selected using a cluster random sampling. The selected sample comprised the class IX.1 as the experimental group and IX.2 as the control group. The instrument used in this study was the reading test, a multiple choice reading test, content and construct validity were estsblished, and internal consistency reliability was assessed. After data collection, normality dan homogeneity tests were conducte. Meanwhile, to test the hypothesis, the researcher used paired -sample t-Test and independent-sample t-Test. For the first hypothesis, the result of this research, using a paired-sample tTest, it was found that Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, indicating that there is a significant effect of using the question answer relationship strategy. Next, for the second hypothesis using a independent sample tTest, it was found that Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05, so the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted, indicating that there is a significant difference between the class taught with question answer relationship strategy and the class taught without question answer relationship strategy. Then, the post-test average of the experimental class was higher than the average of the control class, which means that the alternative (Ha) was accepted that the reading comprehension of students taught with QAR strategy was better than that of students who taught without QAR strategy. So it can be concluded that, this study proves that the use of QAR strategy had effect on students reading comrehension.
