INDAH WULANDARI. NIM: 2320068, The Effect of Using Authentic Materials to Students’ Listening Skill at 10th Grade of SMAN 1 Kamang Magek. A Thesis, State of Islamic University Bukittinggi 2024. Listening is an important skill in English language learning, but many students have difficulty in they listen to. Some of the main problems students face are limited vocabulary so they have difficulty understanding meaning from context, as well as lack of experience hearing diverse English pronunciation and accents. In addition, the listening materials used in class often do not reflect clear English pronunciation and accent, making it difficult for students to understand the audio well. This study aims to determine the effect of using authentic materials on students’ listening skill. This study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups, an experimental class taught listening using authentic materials and a control class without using authentic materials. A pre-test and a post-test were given to both groups to measure students' listening comprehension before and after the treatment. Data analysis was conducted using Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U testing showed that there was significant effect of students using authentic materials. first, The Asymp Sig. value of 0.00, which is smaller than 0.05. Second, there is a significant difference between students who learn with authentic materials and students who learn without authentic materials. This is supported by the Asymp Sig. value of 0.03, which is also smaller than 0.05. Third, the use of authentic materials is proven to be more effective in improving students' listening skills. This can be seen from the increase in the average score in the experimental class was higher than control class (18.81 > 15.55). Therefore, it is recommended that teachers integrate authentic teaching materials in listening lessons to increase students' engagement and comprehension. Future research can explore the long-term impact of authentic teaching materials on other language skills.
