THE EFFECT OF USING PICTURE STRIP STORY TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT 8th GRADE OF SMPN 2 LUBUK SIKAPING, A Thesis, State Islamic University of Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2024. This research aimed to analyze the effect of the Picture Strip Story technique toward students' speaking abilities in an 8th-grade class at SMPN 2 Lubuk Sikaping. This research was due to some problems that were found during the preliminary research such as; first, students’ lack confidence to speak, because they were afraid of making mistakes when expressing ideas. Second, student felt shyness while speaking at the class. Third, the teacher didn’t use engaging media in the class in teaching and learning process. Lastly, the students’ score was low then standard minimum criteria This study used experimental research. experimental group was taught using the Picture Strip Story method, while the control group followed conventional teaching techniques. Data were gathered through oral performance tests, which were scored based on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation. Data analysis involved comparing mean scores using a t-test to evaluate the effect of the intervention. The result showed a significant effect of picture strip story in the speaking abilities of the experimental group compared to the control group. Students taught with the Picture Strip Story technique showed marked increases in grammar accuracy, vocabulary usage, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation, as reflected in their post-test scores. Statistical analysis using the t-test confirmed a notable difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group, with a p-value below 0.05, indicating the effectiveness of the Picture Strip Story technique in enhancing students’ overall speaking performance. Conversely, the control group showed minimal improvement, underscoring the advantage of visual-based narrative techniques in developing speaking skills.
