Abstrak
ABSTRACT Amalya Antang, 2320014. An Exploration of 11th Grade Students’ Intrinsic Motivation in Learning English in SMKN 1 Bukittinggi, A Thesis, State Islamic University of Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2024. The study aimed to find the level and factors of students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English. This research was conducted at SMKN 1 Bukittinggi because there were many students, especially in grade 11, who were not passing the minimum score. Students tended to complete the task not in time. Additionally, many students less interest to learn English by themselves because they think it was too hard. The type of research used is a mix method using exploratory sequential mixed method. The population in this study is 11th grade students in SMKN 1 Bukittinggi. Meanwhile, the sample in this study was selected using a random technique. The instrument used in this study is questionnaire and interview, the instrument used in the valid test using the type of construct validity and the reliable test using the test-retest reliability. From the results of the research and the calculation the students were indicated having moderate level of intrinsic motivation in learning English. There were four options; strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree to measure up the students’ intrinsic motivation. The frequency of the responses was 707 on strongly agree, 1359 on agree, 336 on disagree, and 97 on strongly disagree. It meant that there were 26 (28%) students strongly disagree, 51 (54%) students agree, 12 (13%) students disagree, and 4 (4%) students strongly disagree with the statements. Those data was being counted to the three categories; high motivation, moderate motivation, and low motivation. The result that there were 11 (12%) of the students indicated had high intrinsic motivation, 73 (79%) had moderate intrinsic motivation, and 8 (9%) had low intrinsic motivation in learning English. Overall, the eleventh grade students’ of SMKN 1 Bukittinggi intrinsic motivation in learning English was on moderate level. The several factors that affect to the students’ intrinsic motivation was because they had good character habits; having good integrity and responsibility, self-awareness, worldview, mental complexity, and good wy on how to come over the failures/misatkes being done.
