Abstrak
Dhea Amera, 2318067, “The Correlation Between Students’ Reading Motivation and Reading Comprehension at the Ninth Grade of SMPN 1 Ampek Angkek”. A thesis, English Education Department, State Islamic University Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2024. This research was conducted because of the many problems that occur in students’ reading comprehension in learning English. Most of the problems that arise show that some students find it difficult to answer the teacher’ questions related to the text, scores that are below the average score, students’ lack of vocabulary and students had difficulty summarizing main idea or important point of a text correctly of students at the ninth grade of SMPN 1 Ampek Angkek. This research aimed to know whether there is correlation between students’ reading motivation and reading comprehension. The research was correlation research. The total population was 209 students, the sample was 32 students. The researcher used cluster random sampling in determining the sample in this research. To collect the data, the researcher used a questionnaire and documentation. To analyze the data collected, the researcher used Pearson’ Product Moment Formula and to test the hypothesis, the researcher compares the result of the Sig. (p value) with 0.05. The finding of the research revealed that the Sig. (p value) was 0.301. It means, there is no significant correlation between reading motivation and reading comprehension in learning English. In other words, based on hypothesis testing, the Sig. (p value) was 0.301 > 0.05. It means, the Sig. (p value) was bigger than 0.05. Hence, Ha rejected, and H0 accepted, which stated there is no significant correlation between reading motivation and reading comprehension in learning English at the ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Ampek Angkek.
