ABSTRACT Rahmi Novianti, 2318071. “The Effect of Using Role, Audience, Format, Topic (R.A.F.T) Strategy on Students’ Ability in Writing Greeting Card at the Ninth Grade of SMP Jam’iyyatul Hujjaj Bukittinggi” a thesis. English Education Department. UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2023. This research was aimed to discover the effect of using RAFT Strategy on students’ ability in writing greeting card at the ninth grade students. It was done at SMP Jam’iyyatul Hujjaj Bukittinggi. The researcher found some problems in writing greeting card activity, there were students got difficult to start writing and organize their ideas into a good sentence. The students got lack in vocabulary and poor knowledge of English grammatical rules. Then, the teacher didn’t teach writing based on the principles of teaching writing. This research used pre-experimental research by using one group pre-test post-test design because there was only one class that used in this research.The population of this research was the ninth grade students with total number 26 students at SMP Jam’iyyatul Hujjaj Bukittinggi. This research used total sampling as the sample of the research. The instrument of this research was writing test. The data was analyzed by using in paired sample t-test. The result of the research indicated the score of students in post-test was higher than the score of pre-test before introduced to RAFT strategy. The mean score of pre-test was 70.85, where the mean score of post-test was 81.00. It means that RAFT strategy gave contribution on students’ ability in writing. In addition, from calculation of the data in paired sample t-test it showed that the value of sig.(2-tailed) was 0.000 lower than 0.05. In other words, the alternative hypothesis was accepted and, which was there was significant effect of using RAFT strategy on students’ ability in writing greeting card at the ninth grade of SMP Jam’iyyatul Hujjaj Bukittinggi.
