Abstrak
Monica Yolanda: 2318.092, “Improving Student’s Pronunciation Ability Through Listening to English in English Club at SDIT Baiturrahim Parik Putuih”, A thesis of English Education Study Program UIN Sjech M Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi 2023/2024. This research was done to find out what extend listening to English club improve student’s pronunciation ability in English club at SDIT Baiturrahim Parik Putuih. The background of this research was many students are still unsure how to pronounce English segmental sounds such as vowels, diphthongs, and consonants correctly. As a result, the pronunciation produced is frequently inaccurate, which may impact the meaning. It happened because some sources of errors influenced the students. The methodology of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research used mode of research from Kemmis and Taggart. It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. The researcher collaborate with the English teacher to conduct the research. The information was gathered through a test. Test intended to evaluate student's ability to recognize the correct segmental sounds while listening to English music. This study focused on students who participate in an English club, particularly singing at SDIT Baiturrahim Parik Putuih. The researcher found that teaching English through English songs can increase students' pronunciation abilities. The results showed that the students' scores in cycle 2 are bigger than their scores in cycle 1. Learning accomplishment is measured by the percentages of 70% and 78% as indications of classical achievement in the good category. This indicates that the performance of student's improved between cycles 1 and cycle 2. The students were very enthusiastic, active, and attentive while learning to pronounce English words from song lyrics. Overall, the data indicated that teaching pronunciation through listening to English songs was an effective strategy for improving students' pronunciation abilities.
