Abstrak
This research was aimed at determining the effect of partner reading strategy toward students’ reading comprehension. This research was carried out because students got difficulties to comprehend a text in reading. The fact indicated that caused by students' motivation to diligently read English texts in daily life was low. Then, it was difficult for students to comprehend the text. In addition, the classroom teaching process was more on teacher-centered orientation. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. This research used pre-test and post-test in the experimental class and control class. The population of this research was 10th grade students of SMAN 1 IV Koto. The sample was X3 as experimental class taught by using partner reading strategy and X2 as the control class and taught without partner reading strategy. To determine the sample, the experimental and control class, the researcher utilized SPSS 20 to examine the data and check for normality and homogeneity. The result of the research showed that there was an effect of partner reading strategy toward students reading comprehension. It has presented by using statistical of independent sample t-test where the criteria was Ha is accepted when the significant value alpha (0,05), in contrast, Ho is refused. Based on the result of the research which the significant value was 0,000 0,05. It means that Ha is accepted. Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant difference between students who were taught by partner reading strategy and those who were taught without partner reading strategy, (Ha: t-calculated > t-table). The value of t-calculated in post-test from the experimental and control classes was greater than t-table ( 4.920 > 1.996 ).
