Abstrak
Anggi Muti’ah, NIM: 2118102, “ An Analysis of Students’ Ability to Answer Reading Questions with Higher Order Thinking Skill at the Eight Grade of State Islamic Junior High School”. A Thesis, English Education Department, State Islamic University Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2022. This research was conducted since there were many problems that occur in the students’ ability to answer reading question with higher order thinking skills. Most of the problems that arise showed the ability of students vocabulary skill is still low and they have difficulties in understanding sentences, because they cannot comprehand the meaning of the same words. The purpose of this research was to determine how students' ability to answer questions with HOTS. HOTS can be classified into three, namely analyzing, evaluating and creating. This research was conducted to the eight grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 02 West Pasaman. This research was a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this research was the eight grade students of the State Madrasah Tsanawiyah 02 West Pasaman. This research used purposive sampling. There were 31 students in the sample consisting of class VIII.1. The instrument used in this research was a reading test. In the reading test, the researcher have given students of 20 item multiple choice questions in which there were 3 components, namely analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The test indicator was adopted from Bloom and Anderson Taxonomy. The finding of the research, it was found that the students' higher order thinking skills in answering reading questions is quite good. This has been by the average score obtained by students in the components of analyzing (73.68), evaluating (81.60), and creating (77.39). Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel.
