Abstrak
ABSTRACT Novia Eriza. Nim 2316.006, Thesis Title “An Analysis of Discovery Learning Model in Teaching English at First Grade in SMAN 1 Bukittinggi”. Educational Institution. English Education Study Program. IAIN Bukittinggi. 2022. This research was conducted to determine the implementation of discovery learning in learning English. Some problems can interfere with the implementation of discovery learning including steps of discovery learning that were not relevant. Teacher have not consistently implemented discovery learning in several aspects. Therefore, this research was conducted to find out how the implement discovery learning in learning English in first grade at SMAN 1 Bukittinggi. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The research was conducted by collecting data through observation and interviews. The instruments used were semi-structured interviews and checklist observations. Based on the results of data analysis, the author found that SMA N 1 Bukittinggi has implemented discovery learning. However, teacher are still not consistent in several aspects, especially in problem statements. This can be seen from the observation data obtained by the researcher. Observational data shows that the teacher is the problem statement is sometimes done, but sometimes the teacher immediately carries out the next step. It can be concluded that the teacher has implemented it by following the discovery learning steps but is still not consistent in several aspects.
