Abstrak
This reserch is about an analysis of students ability in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Bonjol . The purpose of the research are to describe the students ability in using simple present tense in wrting descriptive text and to describe students difficulties in using simplel present tense in writing descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Bonjol. This research used mixed method. It is a procedure for collecting, analyzing, and mixing both quantitative and qualitative research in a single study or a series to understand a research problem. The collecting the data was done by doing tes and inteview. After that, some students were interviewed to find out the students’ difficulties in using simplepresent tense in wrting descriptive by the students After reserch was done, the researcher found that an analysis students ability in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Bonjol were categories poor . It could be seen from the students score were 24.The students difficulties in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text is omisson s/es, wrong use of be,wrong ude of verb form, wrong form of negative sentence and wrong use article an and a.It because they did not understand about simple present tense.
