ABSTRACT DEVELOPING ENGLISH TEACHING MATERIALS FOR COMPUTER AND NETWORK ENGINEERING (TKJ) MAJOR AT SMK N 1 TALAMAU By: Azwira Mailara Fitri 2314.027 This research aim 1) to describe the development of English Teaching Materials for Tenth Grade Students of Computer and Network Engineering Major at SMK N 1 Talamau. 2) to know the validity, practicality and effectiveness of English Teaching Materials is to develop for Tenth Grade Students of Computer and Network Engineering Major at SMK N 1 Talamau. This study adapted is Research and Development (R&D) study. The subjects of this study were the tenth grade students of computer and network engineering major at SMK N 1 Talamau. This study adapted from ADDIE development model. The step of this study were conducting, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. There are three types of questionnaire were used to collect the data. The first questionnaire was used to obtain the data about appropriateness of the materials through the expert judgement. The second questionnaire was made obtain the data for teacher responses of the materials that has been implemented. And the last questionnaire was made to obtain the data for students’ responses of the materials that has been implemented. The data questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively through descriptive statistics. Based on the research 1) development of English Teaching Materials with Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. This study developed five units materials based on curriculum 2013. Each unit has three main parts: Introduction, Main Lesson and Reinforcement. Each unit has different topic related to Computer and Network Engineering Major. Concerning the materials that designed, the materials contain input in the Text, Pictures, explanation about grammar and language focus and glossary. Based on the analysis of the data from expert judgement, the mean scored of the three units is > 82% which is in the range of 81-100% and can be categorized as very valid. While the analysis of teacher responses, the mean scored of 89.09% and can be categorized as very valid. And the analysis of students’ responses from the tenth grade students of computer and network engineering major, the mean scored of 87.64% and can be categorized as very valid. The last, the analysis of data from the result of post-test at the tenth grade students of computer and network engineering major got an average of 83.67% which was categorized as very valid. 8
