Abstrak
ABSTRACT Khairun Nisa: 2313.085, The Correlation Between Students’ Attitude in Learning English and Their English Achievement at the Tenth Grade of MAN 2 Agam, a thesis, English Education Department State Institute of Islamic Studies Bukttinggi, 2019. This research was due to discover the correlation between students’ attitude in learning English and their English achievement. It has been done at MAN 2 Agam because most of the students’ there still encounter problems in mastering English achievement. Most of the students’ achievements in learning English were not satisfying yet, it was supported by the score of English test result. Then, some of the students’ did not use teacher rules in learning although the was conducted. As the result, the students’ score still got under the minimum standard which was 75 as decided by the teacher. Then, the researcher was interested in doing research about the correlation between students’ attitude in learning English and their English achievement. This research used correlation research with quantitative paradigm. The total population was 135 students’, and the sample was 36 chosen by purposive sampling. The researcher used questionnaire in collecting the data of students’ attitude in learning English, while the students’ achievement in learning English was collected from the English teacher. The data were gathered by using scatter diagram formula, because it could answer the formulation of the problems. For hypothesis testing, the researcher used r testing. The result showed that the coefficient of correlation (rxy) was gotten 0.97. It means there was positive direction between students’ attitude in learning English and their English achievement. Then, the magnitude correlation was very high category because the score was in the range of 0.90 – 1.00. In addition to test hypothesis, the rxy was gotten 0.97 while t-table on df= 34 and α = 5% was 0.339. It means the rxy score was high than the t-table. In other words, Ha is accepted, which states that there is correlation between students’ attitude in learning English and their English achievement at the tenth grade of MAN 2 Agam.
