Abstrak
ABSTRACT Taufik Hidayat, 2313.068, The Positive Relationships Between Teacher and Students in English Teaching and Learning at Second Grade of SMPN 1 Tilatang Kamang. This research was aimed to know how the positive relationships between teacher and students occur during the process of English teaching and learning. It was found that students feel welcome with teacher who had good treatment toward them such smile to them, greet them and other things that indicated positive relationships between teacher and students. But, in fact, there were differences treatment from each English teacher to students that impact to students’ motivation and achievement in English teaching and learning. Thus, the research was done in SMP N 1 Tilatang Kamang to know how the positive relationships between teacher and students that occur in English teaching and learning which done by teacher to students. This research was descriptive qualitative research. The population of this research was the second grade students in SMP N 1 Tilatang Kamang who was treated by English teacher who’s named Delsi Roza S.Pd. The informants of this research were English teacher who taught English Lesson and some students in SMPN 1 Tilatang Kamang. Snowball sampling was applied as a sampling technique. This technique was useful for finding, identifying, selecting and taking samples in a network or chain of relationships. To analyze the data collected, researcher used Miles and Huberman model which consist of three steps that are reducing the data, displaying the data, and conclusion the drawing or verification. The research finding indicates that the activities of English teacher reflects the positive relationships with students encompass supporting students to take care of and show respect for each other, where teacher play an active and important facilitative role in the relationships between students. Then follows with establishing secure, caring and trusting relationships where teacher interacts with students to build the foundation for students to feel connected, safe, and secure so they can be competent and confident learners. In these cases, teacher has done the lists of activities that indicate positive relationships between teacher and students, even not all the activities. The interview with teacher and students ensure and validate that teacher treats students positively. Thus, it can be stated that teacher has positive relationship between teacher and students in English teaching and learning.
