Abstrak
Widia Septrisna BP. 2314.058, entitled "Character Values Addressed in Student’s English Textbook of Eight Grade Based on K13 Curruculum". Thesis, IAIN Bukittinggi, 2019 This research was due to several problems and phenomena that have occurred among students lately. The result of the interview with one of the English teacher, reveals that the character of the students in the last few years is very declining, for example disrespectful of teachers in the classroom, lack of honesty, less discipline, and less responsibilty. Futhermore, she also said about the texbook that used in learning process is “When English Rings a Bell” just contains about 50% of 18 character values that should available, for example the first point in the character value is religious, but in contrast the textbook does not have a religious value. Furthermore, the activities of students in the textbook seem monotonous and the same in each chapter so that the value of the characters that appear also is just that. Through 2013 curriculum Government expects students not only have the ability and skills but also to have a good attitude, as a support in education must be equipped with textbooks that are able to present character values needed by students to be good human beings. This study aims to analyze the character values found in the textbook used in the 8th grade of the Junior high School "When English Rings a Bell". This study uses the content analysis method with a qualitative approach. Researcher use document, namely textbook as research instrument. The technique of analyzing data uses 6 steps, namely: unitizing, sampling, recording / coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating. The results of the analysis show that in general eighteen character values are contained in the book. However, the character distribution of character values is still not evenly distributed. Character values that often appear are communicative, and work hard value while the character values that appear the least are nationalism, religious and tolerance..
