ABSTRACT LailaBarkah, 2314.006. The Effect of Using Group Investigation Method toward Students’ Speaking Skill at The Eighth Grade ofMTs.IttihadulMubalighin.A Thesis, State Islamic Institute ( IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2019. This research was done to discover the effect of using group investigation method toward students’ speaking skill. It has been done because there were some problems in MTs. Ittihadul Mubalighin about speaking. First, most of the students were less participated in the classroom. It could be seen from many of them did not give their ideas when speaking. Second, most of students had low motivation to speak. It was indicated by many of them were happier to make noise and played with their friend.Third, most of students less self confidence when speaking in the classroom. This research used using quasi-experimental research. The population of this research was the eighth grade students at MTs Ittihadul Mubalighin. The sample was VIII.1 was treated as experimental class and taught by using Group investigation method and VIII.2 was treated as control class and by using conventional method. To determine the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling technique. The data was got through pretest and posttest to experimental and control groups. To analyze the data, the researcher used the normality by using Liliefors and the homogeneity test by using F test, to test the Hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula and consulted the result into t-table with level of significance α = 0,05. The findings of this research showed thatthree alternative hypothesis (Ha) were accepted. First, from the result and accounting the pre-test and post-test scores of the experiment class, it was found the t-obtained ( 6.251) was higher than the table (1.67 ) with degree of freedom 31+31-2 = 60. Second, the calculation of post-test both classes; they were proved by the t-obtained was (6.49) which was higher than the table t-table ( 2.00) with the degree of freedom 31+31-2 =60.Third, t-obtained of the post test of both classes was calculated with t-obtained (6.49) which was higher than t-table (1,67). It means that the students who taught by using Group investigation method better than conventional method in teaching speaking skill on descriptive text. So, using group investigation method in teaching speaking method can help the students in speaking skill. Keywords: Speaking Skill, Descriptive Text, Group Investigation.
