Abstrak
ABSTRAK Dian mutia sari, 2314.115. The Effect of Project Based Learning toward Students’ Writing Ability at Ten Grade of Scientific Major in SMA N 1 Bukittinggi in Academic Years 2018/2019. A Thesis, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Bukittinggi, 2018. This research was due to discover the effect of Project Based Learning toward Students’ Writing Ability. It has been done at SMA N 1 Bukittinggi because most of the students of Senior High School still encounter problems in mastering English especially writing skill. Most of the students bored to write cause the students difficult to generate ideas. Then, the teacher still uses the conventional technique such as the materials that was given to them was written on the whiteboard, give the picture and then ask students to write it down. Additionally, this school has the complete equipments but the teacher seldom uses it. As a result, only some of the students got involved in the classroom activity. This research used experimental research. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design by using the pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was at ten grade of scientific major in SMA N 1 Bukittinggi. The sample was X.IPA.1 which was treated as experimental class and taught by using project based learning and X.IPA.2 was treated as control class and taught by using conventional technique. To determine the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling technique. The data was got through pretest and posttest to experimental and control classes. To analyze the data, the researcher used the normality by using Lilliefors test and the homogeneity test by using F test and to test the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula and consulted the result into t-table with level of the significance ∝ = 0.025 for the first and second hypothesis and (∝) = 0.05 for the third hypothesis. From the result and accounting the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental class, it was found that the t-obtained (8.25) was higher than the t-table (1.960) with the degree of freedom (df) = 31+31-2 = 60 and level of significance (∝)= 0.05/2= 0.025. So that, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there was significant effect of project based learning toward students’ writing. Then, the calculation of post-test both classes: experimental and control classes was obtained the t-obtained (5.15) which was higher than the t-table (1.960) with the degree of freedom (df) = 31+31-2 = 60 and level of significance (∝)= 0.05/2= 0.025. So that, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there is significant difference between using project based learning and using conventional technique. Then, the t-obtained in post-test both classes was obtained t-obtained (5.15) which was higher than t-table (1.645) with degree of freedom (df) = 31+31-2 = 60 and level of significance (∝) = 0.05. So that, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that the students who are taught by project based learning is better than the students who are taught by using conventional technique. So, it can be concluded that the entire hypothesis is accepted. It is proved that using project based learning toward students’ writing ability can help the students in their writing skill.
