Abstrak
ABSTRACT LINDRA WATI. 2313047. “The Comparison of English Achievement between Students who Took English Course at School and out of School (A Case Study in the Seventh Grade Students of 299 MTs N Ganting Padang Panjang)”, Thesis of Department of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training, Islamic Studies (IAIN) Bukittinggi 2018/2019. This study was done because the researcher found several problems that were faced by the seventh grade of MTs N Ganting Padang Panjang on academic year 2017/2018 about some of the students’ English achievement still under defined criterion level (KKM) even though they have taken English course at school and out of school. This research was mixing methods between quantitative method and qualitative method or causal comparative research. The samples were taken from students of class 7.A-7.H of MTs N Ganting Padang Panjang 299 which located in the Jalan Ganting Bukit Surungan. The data were collected from interview and documentation. Researcher used interview and documentation to get the data. The types of interview were semi-structure interview. Meanwhile the document used in this research was students’ English achievement score, and to know the comparison of not researcher used formula and to know what is cause of English achievement difference between students who took English course at school and out of school. The result showed that t-result is 2.791, means that > = 2.791 > 2.0244 in significance level 5%, so in this level (hypothesis alternative) is accepted and (Null hypothesis) is rejected, means that there is significance difference of English achievement between students who took English course at school and out of school. Then, the second of hypothesis was that is 2.791, means that > = 2.791 > 2.021 in significance level 5% means that there is of English achievement between students who took English course out of school better than English course at school. Another, the cause differences of English achievement between students who took English course at school and out of school was related to aspect: teaching techniques used by teacher, instructional media used by teacher, the total of meetings and duration of study for every meeting.
